Replacement details

  • 50 GPD THIN FILM COMPOSITE MEMBRANE - The reverse osmosis membrane is the stage that does the separation, passing water through while rejecting dissolved solids to the drain line. Rated 24 gallons per day at 60 psi and 77F. Standard 1812 form factor. Install with the pre-filters fresh so chlorine does not reach the membrane.
  • FITS THESE SYSTEMS - Direct replacement for FX12M, TFM-18, AG1812TAE, GXRM10RBL. CFS is an independent brand and this is not an OEM product. Manufacturer names and part numbers are used for reference only.
  • WHERE THE MEMBRANE SITS IN THE SYSTEM - The membrane is the third or fourth stage, after sediment and carbon have taken out the grit and chlorine. Chlorine damages thin film composite membrane material, so the carbon stage ahead of it is what keeps the membrane working. Change the pre-filters on schedule and the membrane lasts as designed.
  • WHAT TO EXPECT ON SERVICE LIFE - A membrane typically runs about 2 years on well-maintained systems, longer on soft low-TDS water and shorter on hard or high-TDS supply. Watch your TDS meter rather than the calendar: when output TDS climbs toward feed TDS, the membrane is done. Flush a new membrane for several hours before drinking.
  • GPD IS A RATING, NOT A PROMISE - Gallons-per-day figures are measured at 60 psi and about 77F. Colder water and lower line pressure both reduce output, which is normal and not a fault. If your production seems low, check line pressure and water temperature before replacing anything.

The membrane is the heart of your reverse osmosis system - the stage that actually reduces dissolved solids while every other cartridge just protects it or polishes after it. When your RO water starts tasting flat, your TDS meter creeps up, or the tank fills slower than it used to, the membrane is usually what's aging. This replacement brings the numbers back down.

It fits the FX12M membrane position in GE GXRM10RBL and GXRM10G under-sink reverse osmosis systems, and answers to the codes you'll find on paperwork and old elements alike: TFM-18, AG1812TAE, and 1616426 - an 18 GPD element in the standard 1812 form factor (CFS brand - a compatible replacement, not an OEM GE product). Check your housing style before ordering: GE's quick-connect shells and standard canister housings hold the element differently, so match what your system uses.

A membrane lives longest when its carbons do their job. The carbon stages ahead of it strip the chlorine that degrades membrane material - and they age about twice as fast as the membrane they guard. If you're replacing the membrane, it's worth checking the carbons too: our FX12P-compatible pair and complete kits cover every stage in one order. Replace the membrane about every one to two years depending on water quality, and let rising TDS - not the calendar - make the final call.
This is a non OEM replacement product.
