Replacement details

  • SIX GRANULAR CARBON CARTRIDGES - Coconut shell activated carbon in the standard 10 by 2.5 in size. Six cartridges is eighteen months on a quarterly change or three years on a six month cycle, at a lower cost per cartridge than smaller packs.
  • GRANULAR CARBON, NOT A BLOCK - The carbon is packed as loose granules rather than compressed into a solid block. Water moves through the bed with little pressure drop, which keeps flow strong at the tap, and the carbon reduces chlorine along with the tastes and smells that ride with it. A carbon block gives more consistent contact and holds fine particulate as well, so pick a block if you want one cartridge doing both jobs.
  • WHERE IT GOES IN THE SYSTEM - GAC normally sits behind a sediment stage, which catches dirt, silt and rust first so the carbon is not loading up with particulate it was never meant to hold. On a reverse osmosis system the same media runs as the inline post-filter, after the membrane and storage tank, finishing the taste on the way to the faucet.
  • PART NUMBERS AND HOUSINGS - Replaces 155155-51, W50PEHD, WVC34, GAC-10, UDF-10, WHKF-GAC, AP117, AP101T, GAC1, CG5-10S, GAC-BB and D-10 positions, and fits any standard 10 by 2.5 in slim line housing. This is not the 10 by 4.5 in big blue size; measure the cartridge you are replacing before ordering.
  • MATCH THE FILTER TO YOUR WATER - How long a cartridge lasts depends on your chlorine level and how much water you run. Heavy chlorine or high volume typically means changing sooner; light municipal use typically stretches the interval. A return of chlorine taste at the tap is the signal to change it, not the calendar.

Granular activated carbon cartridges in the standard 10 by 2.5 in size, made from coconut shell carbon. The carbon is packed in as loose granules rather than compressed into a block, and water passes through that bed on its way to the tap. What it does is reduce chlorine, along with the tastes and smells that come with it. The loose packing is the point of GAC. Water moves through it more freely than through a solid block, so pressure drop stays low and flow stays strong, which is why granular carbon is the usual choice for a polishing stage. The trade-off is that a carbon block gives more consistent contact and holds fine particulate as well, so if you want one cartridge doing both jobs, a block is the better part. Placement matters. GAC normally sits behind a sediment stage, which catches the dirt, silt and rust first and stops the carbon loading up with particulate it was never meant to hold. On a reverse osmosis system the same media runs as the inline post-filter, sitting after the membrane and storage tank and finishing the taste of stored water on its way to the faucet. Check the size before ordering. This is the slim line 10 by 2.5 in cartridge used in under sink housings, RO systems and countertop units, not the 10 by 4.5 in big blue size. The two look similar in a photograph and are not interchangeable. Use the size selector on this page to choose the pack size that suits your change schedule. How long each cartridge lasts depends on your water and your household, and the signal to change it is a return of chlorine taste at the tap rather than a date on the calendar. Complete Filtration Services has built and supplied replacement filtration since 2006.
